The project of Baglio del Cristo di Campobello is a project on the limits of the visionary as the architects of this idea, Angelo, Domenico and Carmelo Bonetta, have undertaken it to be able to bottle the “Sicilian”. An ambitious idea, supported by the precious contribution of Riccardo Cotarella, one of the most important national winemakers. The cellar, very modern as it was renovated 12 years ago, has immediately set out to enhance the potential of an area with a high vocation: the chalky calcareous hills south of Campobello di Licata.

The vineyards grow all around the baglio, on gentle hills of chalky-chalky nature, 300 meters above sea level in the Campobello countryside. The climate in the summer is the torrid one of the Sicilian hinterland, here however mitigated by the cool breezes coming from the not far channel of Sicily. Grillo, Chardonnay, Nero d’Avola, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot ripen on these suggestive lands. An idea that saw the first company harvest only in 2007, but that in just a few years has managed to conquer a prominent place not only in the Sicilian wine scene, but also in that of the whole of Italy.

Ideas like this are not born every day and a winery like Baglio del Cristo di Campobello certainly deserves all the confirmations it is getting: territoriality, authenticity and aromatic complexity are the elements that push critics and to pronounce more favorably towards this beautiful and young reality of Sicily.
